A man well known to the police and the courts has been sentenced to a further two years and one day in prison for leading RCMP on a lengthy chase in a stolen vehicle.

Clayton Angus Middlemiss was issued the term in Prince George provincial court on Friday last week for the June 3, 2023, incident that began when police spotted the vehicle heading west on Chief Lake Road and then onto the Tear Drop Forest Service Road.

An RCMP helicopter was deployed to track the vehicle from the air allowing police officers on the ground to set up a spike belt.

Middlemiss was issued the term on counts of fleeing police and knowingly occupying a vehicle in which a firearm is present. He was also sentenced to a concurrent term of one year for possessing a firearm contrary to an order, issued a lifetime firearms prohibition and ordered to provide a DNA sample.

In all, Middlemiss, who has remained in custody since his arrest, was sentenced to two years and seven months less credit of 209 days time served prior to sentencing. Because the remainder of his sentence is more than two years, it will be served in a federal institution.

Middlemiss has a lengthy criminal record and a history of failed attempts to evade police capture and gun-related offences. This will be the longest sentence he has received.

Co-accused Taylor Madison Dodd was sentenced on Monday of last week to a one year conditional sentence order followed by six months probation for knowingly occupying a vehicle in which a firearm is present. Dodd was also issued a lifetime firearms prohibition and ordered to provide a DNA sample.
