The Lheidli T’enneh Nation has honoured two exceptional high school students who have excelled this year despite the educational challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic.
On Dec. 11 Lucas Joseph and Rayne Ririe were recognized for their stellar schoolwork during a ceremony attended by Lheidli T’enneh Chief and Council, their families and representatives of School District 57 (SD57) and the College of New Caledonia (CNC).
Lucas Joseph is 16-years-old and attends Prince George Secondary School. He is currently in Grade 12 and enjoys woodworking and culinary arts. Lucas participated this summer in the Outland Youth Employment Program for the second year. He shares proudly his success with a moose and hunting with his father and uncle.
Rayne Ririe is 14-years-old and attends Prince George Secondary School. She is currently in Grade 9 and has been on the Principal’s List since she entered high school. Rayne is considering post-secondary education to become a pediatric surgeon and when not studying, she enjoys art.
“Council and Administration want to say congratulations to Lucas and Rayne for showing educational excellence despite the challenges presented this year by the Covid-19 pandemic,” says Chief of the Lheidli T’enneh, Dayi Clay Pountney said
“Both students found ways this year to overcome the obstacles to learning presented by the Covid-19 pandemic. Lucas and Rayne represent the future of our nation and we encourage both to follow their educational and career dreams. Our nation is building for a vibrant, sustainable future and we will need members with a variety of skills to help us achieve success. We want our students to know that every career and training opportunity is a good one to consider. We are here to support you and we will welcome you back to when you have completed your educational journeys. On behalf of Council and Administration I want to say well done with your studies this year and good luck with your future educational pursuits.”
Both students were presented with gifts in recognition of their excellent educational work this year.
