Load restrictions set to take effect on Prince George roads

The measures are aimed at preventing road damage during the spring thaw

Seasonal load restrictions will be in effect across several roads in and around Prince George starting at midnight on March 4, 2025, the city announced today. These restrictions, which are aimed at preventing road damage during the spring thaw, will limit vehicle axle loading to 100 per cent, 70 per cent, or 50 per cent of the legal weight.

The following roads will be limited to 50 per cent of the legal axle loading:

  • Hartman Road (permanently restricted to 70 per cent)
  • Jutland Road, Leslie Road (from Blackwater Road to Haldi Road), Reynolds, W & E Sykes, Buckingham, W. Purdue, Birchill, Gudrum, Walter, Haldi (gravel portion)
  • Foreman Road, Veekens Road
  • Swanson Road and all roads west of the Beger/Swanson intersection
  • Cranbrook Hill Road (from Melmack Crescent to Otway Road)
  • Goose Country Road
  • Hoferkamp Road
  • Kueng Road

A 70 per cent axle loading limit will apply to:

  • All unpaved roads within the City of Prince George, excluding roads mentioned for 50 per cent loading
  • Roads west of Westgate Avenue, north and south of Highway 16 West, and all connecting roads (excluding roads with 50 per cent and 100 per cent restrictions)
  • Roads east of Queensway from Regents Crescent to LaSalle Avenue (permanent restriction)
  • Roads east of the Old Cariboo Highway and south of Highway 16 East (excluding those with 50 per cent and 100 per cent restrictions)
  • Cranbrook Hill Road from Foothills Blvd to Melmack Crescent, including all connecting roads (excluding those with 50 per cent and 100 per cent restrictions)
  • Aberdeen Road and all roads connecting to it
  • Landooz Road North, including all connecting roads
  • Roads north of East Austin Road, including connectors east of Highway 97 North (excluding roads with 50 per cent and 100 per cent restrictions)
  • Chief Lake Road and all connecting roads
  • North Kelly Road and all connecting roads (excluding roads with 50 per cent and 100 per cent restrictions)
  • Foothills Boulevard from Chief Lake Road to West Austin Road
  • North Nechako Road west of Foothills Boulevard
  • Old Summit Lake Road and all connecting roads (excluding roads with 50 per cent restrictions)

The following roads will maintain a 100 per cent legal axle loading limit:

  • All other paved roads within the City of Prince George not specified for 50 per cent or 70 per cent restrictions, including Blackwater Road, Foothills Boulevard, Woodvalley Drive, Woodoak Crescent, Meadow Rim Way, Twinberry, and Burgess Road
  • Marleau Road from Highway 16 West to Southridge Avenue

Permanent 70 per cent axle loading restrictions apply to the following:

  • Graves Road between Highway 16 East and the East City Boundary
  • Peter Road between Chief Lake Road and Karin Road
  • Fox Drive
  • All roads east of Queensway from Regents Crescent to LaSalle Avenue
  • Hartman Road (except where specified for 50 per cent)
  • Leslie Road from Birchill Crescent to Sabrina Road (except where specified for 50 per cent)
  • East Sykes Road (except where specified for 50 per cent)
  • Kueng Road from Crest Road to Forests for the World (except where specified for 50 per cent)
  • Betham Road, Sooke Road, and Belmont Road
  • Kluss Road
  • South Blackburn Road
  • West Sykes Road
  • Jutland Road (except where specified for 50 per cent)
  • Beger Road

The seasonal restrictions will be in place to protect road conditions during the spring thaw period and are expected to last until further notice. Drivers are encouraged to be aware of these load limits and plan accordingly when travelling on the affected routes.
