Prince George’s craft beer scene continues to gain provincial notoriety, as local breweries are among the nominees for a new craft beer award.
The Growler, which is a publication that covers B.C.’s craft beer scene, has launched the Growlies.
Three breweries well-known to beer aficionados have made the list of nominees for the inaugural awards.
Prince George’s new spot Trench Brewing and Distilling, known for their Fang IPA, Viking Amber Ale and 6 Mile Stout, was among 10 nominees for best new brewery.
Crossroads Brewing, located in the heart of downtown on George Street, was among 10 nominees for the "unsung hero award."
Quesnel-based Barkerville Brewing was nominated in the best dark ale categories for their 52-foot stout, which is made with Quesnel Birch Syrup. (You can now find it government liquor stores.)
Another Northern B.C. standout is Smithers Brewing, which garnered two nominations, one for best new brewery and another for unsung hero.
The nominees for the Growlies were selected with the help of a panel of 20 craft beer experts from across the province, including certified beer judges, craft beer journalists and industry insiders. The experts choose five to 10 nominees for each category.
The actual winners will be decided by craft beer drinkers themselves via an online poll.
The online poll closes Oct. 22. Final votes will then be counted to determine a winner for each category and those who take part in the online survey will be entered to win a craft beer prize package.
The results of the Growlies will be published in The Growler’s Winter 2018 issue, out Dec. 1.
