London Drugs is helping to fill some holes in the city's recycling landscape.

Air freshener cartridges and blister packs, used packages of disposable cleaning wipes, trigger heads on spray bottles and screw caps from bathroom and kitchen cleaners are now all being accepted for recycling at London Drug's Pinewood Mall store.

Multi-Materials B.C. also accepts trigger heads and screw caps but not air freshener cartridges and blister packs. As for disposable cleaning wipes it depends on the container - MMBC accepts HDPE rigid containers but not film plastic containers with plastic rigid lids.

A drop-off box is now in place next to the customer service desk and once it's full, it will be picked up and shipped to TerraCycle, an independent agency specializing in recycling items not covered by the larger programs because of a lack of infrastructure to deal with them.

"We're thrilled to be working on this new in-store recycling program," said TerraCycle CEO Tom Szaky in a press release.

"Diverting home cleaning waste from landfill is a huge job, but with these drop-off boxes, it's made easy - whenever you're planning a visit to London Drugs, you bring your used trigger heads along and leave them at the store. We take care of the rest."

Also, for every item dropped off, a donation will be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

The program is also being carried out in partnership with Proctor and Gamble.
