The life and times of one of B.C.'s legendary surveyors and photographers will be featured during a reading event, slideshow and lecture by historian Jay Sherwood.
Sherwood's presentation on Frank Swannell will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 19 in Room 7-150 , UNBC Student Street. Admission and snacks are free.
Sherwood will showcase photographs Swannell captured as he travelled the province, charting new areas in the remote sections of B.C. as well as the work of other pioneers as they depicted life in the rugged North.
He will read from his latest and third Swannell chronicle, Return to Northern British Columbia: A Photojournal of Frank Swannell 1929 to 1939.
Sherwood, a teacher-librarian in Vancouver, is a former teacher in Vanderhoof where he first learned of Swannell. The event is sponsored jointly by UNBC's Arts Council and Northern B.C. Archives and the Prince George Public Library.
