Crown counsel has approved a charge of kidnapping against a Prince George man who allegedly abducted a 50-year-old woman from University Hospital of Northern British Columbia on Sunday.

Lash Leroux, 44, also faces a charge of possession of stolen property under $5,000 from the incident, when he was seen pushing her in a wheelchair out of the building.

He was arrested without incident later the same day after an RCMP officer spotted his car outside an 1100-block Irwin Street home.

The woman was found inside the home and transported by ambulance back to UHNBC.

Leroux and the woman are known to each other, RCMP have said.

Leroux also faces charges of dangerous driving, possession of stolen property under $5,000 and willfully resisting a peace officer from an alleged March 5 incident, and dangerous driving and willfully resisting a peace officer from an alleged March 4 incident.

Leroux's criminal record includes a conviction for manslaughter for which he was sentenced to four year in prison.

According to the Edmonton Journal, Leroux had shot his friend after the pair binged on alcohol and cocaine.

They had been partying for about 40 hours before his friend, Kerry Goldthorpe, 32, turned violent and knocked Leroux unconscious with a rake outside his acreage near Millet, Alta. on Oct. 27, 2002.

Leroux later found Goldthorpe in his home and, fearing he would hurt his wife and children, loaded a gun and ordered him out of the house. Goldthorpe went outside and stood on the deck. Leroux told him again to leave.

The two were walking towards each other when Leroux fired a shot into Goldthorpe's chest.

Leroux was originally charged with second-degree murder but a jury convicted him of manslaughter in 2003. A new trial was ordered on appeal and in Wetaskiwin court in 2006 a different jury convicted Leroux of manslaughter again.

During the trial, Leroux claimed that he acted in self-defence and the shooting was accidental.

In sentencing Leroux to four years in prison, the judge took into account three years credit for time he has already served in custody.

His record also includes convictions for assaulting a peace officer, assault with intent to resist arrest, impaired driving and possession of a controlled substance.

In Prince George, he's been convicted of willfully resisting a peace officer, being unlawfully at large and breach of an undertaking or recognizance.
