Spring is coming to Masich Place Stadium early this year.
On Saturday, the city will open the gates from dawn until dusk for residents to take to the track. That's roughly three weeks earlier than usual, said a city release.
It's still too soon to open the field, bleachers, and washroom facilities,. That'll wait until later in the spring, the city said, but visitors can use a portable toilet.
By the first week of April, the city will open public washrooms at Lheidli T'enneh Memorial Park and Duchess Park.
That's a month before the rest of the city's fields and public washrooms are typically open on May 1.
But the city's not ruling out opening those earlier too, noting it's open to the opportunity "depending upon the weather, with the possible exception of the road leading up to Connaught Hill Park."
The hill is scheduled to undergo road stabilization operations.
The city noted in its release that public consultation and design for the stadium improvements will start this spring with construction expected to begin in 2017. Last month, the city announced a $4.2 million facelift to Masich after $3.2 million in federal funding was approved.
