The Mayor’s Black and White Ball For the Arts is coming back for the third year in a row.

The ball brings together three of the larger arts organizations in Prince George, Theatre NorthWest, Prince George Symphony Orchestra and the Community Arts Council, to collaboratively fundraise.

The annual black-tie event will not only be raising funds for the partner organizations but this year, additional funds will be raised for the new Prince George Arts Micro-Grant Program, supporting local emerging artists by providing funding for short-term arts projects.

“I think it’s important for the community to realize the local arts organizations and our community arts organizations bring so much to this city its really about helping the city thrive so any kind of support given to the arts is support for the community in general,” says Sean Ferrell, executive director of the Prince George and District Community Arts Council.

“It’s a real extravaganza of culinary food live entertainment,” adds Ferrell, about the event itself.

“Gentlemen are invited to get into their tuxedos, women dress up in their fancy ball gowns. This year, we have a 1920s theme, so that will be a little bit of extra fun as well.”

The ball is hosted by Mayor Lyn Hall and will feature an exclusive culinary feat, live music, dancing, auctions and other entertainment, provided by some of the city’s top-performing artists and arts groups.

“It’s a really important component for our community and we have so many multicultural organizations that participate in showing their culture in our city. This is a way for us to recognize how multi-cultural we are, recognizing the arts are an important piece of what we are in Prince George,” says Hall.

“It recognizes the fact that a strong arts community in Prince George is an opportunity for us to keep people and attract people. I’m finding over and over again that when people come to Prince George and see if this is where they want to make their home they look at what we have and that’s everything from sporting events to cultural events.”

For the third year, Canadian Tire has stepped forward as the title sponsor of the event with a financial contribution of $10,000.

“We are thrilled to once again be a proud supporter of this even which is a core component of the various arts groups and performances that we support here in Prince George,” said Selen Alpay, Canadian Tire Store Owner, in a news release.

The event will be held on May 9, 2020 at the Prince George Civic Centre.
