Prince George Citizen in partnership with Canadian Tire and the Oakroom Grill are hosting a fundraiser on Nov. 15 for Meals on Wheels to help seniors in Prince George.

The Meals on Wheels fundraiser goes Wednesday, Nov. 15 at the Oakroom Grill.

Recently the Prince George Council of Seniors has been struggling to meet the demand of the Meals on Wheels program, which delivers prepared meals to seniors in need throughout our community.

Prince George Citizen publisher Curtis Armstrong decided to take action when he heard of their troubles.

The Citizen, in partnership with Canadian Tire and Oakroom Grill, are putting together the  fundraiser that includes a three-course dinner and a host of silent auction items that will appeal to all.

“Seniors being served in our community by Meals on Wheels are some of the most vulnerable residents and to think they had to go for weeks without any meal delivery was unacceptable,” Armstrong said. “Knowing how this city gets behind causes that they care about,I knew we could help. We’ve got the audience, we’ve got the partnerships with various companies and organizations in the community and I thought we could come together, share a nice meal and bid on some fantastic live and silent auction items. Every dollar from the fundraiser and other initiatives is going to the Meals on Wheels program.”

Up for grabs during the auction is a $3,000 ebike, a $1,200 stand up paddle board, two Canucks club tickets and parking pass, a Prince George Cougars suite set for Nov. 28 and includes 14 game tickets. There’s Coldsnap tickets, Cirque Musica tickets, and an exclusive spa treatment package valued at almost $300 from CORE salon. There’s also a variety of art donated by talented regional artists so much more.

“The Prince George Council of Seniors is so grateful to our sponsors for putting on such a great event to support the seniors in our community,” Janet Marren, chair of the Prince George Council of Seniors, said. “Our Meals on Wheels program relies primarily on grants and donations in order to keep our costs affordable for the recipients so we appreciate this so much.”

With the support from Canadian Tire, The Oakroom Grill, Northern Lights Estate Winery and Trench Brewing, the dinner sees people choose their three-course meal, pick their spot in the dining room, and choose a beverage at the same time they make their advanced-ticket purchase of $75 per person.
