The B.C. Winter Games are bringing the province’s best young athletes to Fort St. John this year.
The bi-annual ‘mini-Olympics’ showcases young people’s abilities and pins them against others they’d normally wouldn’t get the chance to square up with on a day-to-day basis.
Prince George is set to host the next B.C. Summer Games in 2022, but before then, it’s sending almost 80 youth four hours north on Highway 97 for the four-day event running Thursday (Feb. 20) to Sunday (Feb. 23).
There are also 40 coaches, supervisors and officials from the northern capital helping out at the Games ranging in a variety of indoor and outdoor sports.
A great majority of the athletes are competing for the Cariboo-North East region, while some for the North West.
