The longest run in women’s basketball history at UNBC has ended.

The Lady Timberwolves were outshot and out-played by the University of Calgary Dinos, losing Game Two of the Canada West quarter-finals by a score of 92-55 and the best-of-three series, 0-2.

Prince George’s Madison Landry went to the basket hard in the contest, scoring a game-high 20 points between the two teams in her 36 minutes of play, while Maria Mongomo recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds for UNBC.

The women only made one three-pointer out of 14 attempts, while Calgary was on fire from around the arc, draining 17 of 37 shots.

UNBC women’s head coach Sergey Shchepotkin said he was okay with ending the season against one of the best team’s in the nation.

“In our first time in the quarterfinals, it is okay to lose to them, and a good experience,” he replied in a news release. “I truly believe over the next few years, playoff games against good teams like this will be the norm for us. It is good we didn’t give up."

The Lady T-Wolves finished the 2018-19 regular season 11-9, the best record they’ve had since joining the Canada West Conference in 2012 and the first time the program finished over 500.

This was also the final game as T-Wolves for graduating athletes Vasiliki Louka and Abby Gibb.

Louka capped off her senior year by becoming the school’s all-time leader for women in points, rebounds, and blocks.

She is also in the top 20 in Canada West history in career points, as well as field goals and free throws.

The women will be honoured, along with all UNBC sports teams, at the post-secondary school’s awards banquet, which will be determined at a later date.
