In conjunction with the City Wide Clean Up, there’s a Moccasin Flats clean up going on this week from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday so there’s still a chance to help out.
There was about a dozen people there Saturday afternoon but there’s always a need for more helping hands – and maybe a few shovels – that would be welcomed and appreciated.
UNDU: Uniting Northern Drug Users Undoing Stigma is the group that is hosting the event and they’ve brought plenty of snacks and drinks to help people keep going to get the job done.
Once enough has been cleaned up Katt Cadieux, founder and executive director of UNDU, said the next step is going to be a creating a community garden.
She’s already got the supplies, now they just need enough space to make it a viable option at the Lower Patricia Boulevard area which has been designated by the residents as Moccasin Flats.
UNDU is A First Nations-founded, peer-led drug user group operating in the unceded lands of the Lheidli T’enneh. UNDU provides harm reduction services at the Knights Inn housing program and outreach services, including overdose response, in the downtown area seven days a week.
