As high-school sports are still benched by COVID-19, independent clubs are trying to find ways to keep up-and-coming athletes on the court.

Volleyball has remained consistent with training and practice in Prince George and more is on the way thanks to the Kodiaks club team.

For the third time since the pandemic hit the region in March, the Prince George Youth Volleyball Club (PGYVC), in partnership with Northern Premier Volleyball, is setting up a chance to play and officiate games starting this month and through to early December.

The PGYVC explains it’s compiling a four-on-four format because COVID-19 restrictions are only allowing for up to eight athletes on a court at any given time.

Players not on the court will be asked to referee, the club adds, with all games taking place at the College of New Caledonia gymnasium.

Games are set to run every Monday for seniors and every Wednesday for juniors with 90-minute sessions per group.

PGYVC’s Fall Four-on-Four schedule is as follows:

MONDAYS

  • Oct. 19 and 26
  • Nov. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30
    • 5 p.m. = Grade 10-12 girls
    • 6:30 p.m. = Grade 10-12 girls
    • 8 p.m. = Grade 10-12 boys

WEDNESDAYS

  • Oct. 21 and 28
  • Nov. 4, 18 and 25
  • Dec. 2 and 9
    • 5 p.m. = Grade 8-9 girls
    • 6:30 p.m. = Grade 8-9 girls
    • 8 p.m. = Grade 8-9 boys

Cost to play is $240 per team and athletes are asked to have their list ready at the time of registration as no walk-ups will be taken.
