Mr. PG is now part of a city-wide campaign to help local businesses stay afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 60-year-old mascot is now wielding a new flag depicting the Support PG initiative at the corner of Highways 97 and 16 as of today (July 23).
The campaign, established by the Prince George Chamber of Commerce (PGCC), Tourism Prince George, and nine other community-based organizations, provides information to residents, as well as inter-provincial tourists and visitors, which businesses are open during COVID-19 and how they can be supported during an unprecedented time.
“What’s important to remember is every dollar that is spent here at a local business is kept here locally, whether that’s through the employment, through the purchasing of goods, the sponsoring of our kids’ sports teams and activities,” said PGCC CEO Todd Corrigall in an earlier interview with PrinceGeorgeMatters.
“When we get to these critical points when there’s less and less dollars and less and less shoppers, we need to make sure that we’re spending our money more wisely so that we’re ensuring the health and safety of our entire community over the long term.”
To mark Mr. PG's new flag, 20 free prize packs are being given away today consisting of gift cards and promotional items, including a pair of Mr. PG socks.
You can head to the Northern Lights Estate Winery, Madras Maple Cafe, Darling Deviance Wool Shop & Gifts, Sound Factory and Smokey J's to find them.
Recently, on July 15, Support PG also launched several ‘staycation’ packages to encourage local and regional travel and drive traffic to local businesses as the COVID-19 pandemic has altered summer plans.
