National Sweater Day is a fun campaign to encourage Canadians to conserve energy, presented by World Wildlife Fund Canada.
Grannies are picking up the phone and insisting that Canadians put on a sweater and turn down the heat this Thursday.
There is a full call centre where many, many grannies pick up the phone and speak out about the importance of valuing energy.
Canadians from coast to coast can register online for a granny of their choice to call and remind them to turn down their thermostat and put on a sweater. You can even have a bit of fun with it and register unsuspecting friends and family.
Last year almost 5,000 reminder calls were mad and more than one million Canadians participated, including embracing the fun with ugly sweater contests as they turned down the thermostat.
If all Canadians lowered their thermostats by just 2 degrees Celsius this winter, it would reduce greenhouse gas emissions enough to shut down a 600 megawatt coal-fired power station.
So put on a sweater Thursday and turn down the thermostat.
