The B.C. Ministry of Health reported 447 new cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health region over the weekend.
However, the number of active cases in the region stayed relatively flat, rising by 12 from Friday to 1,298 as of Monday.
As of Monday, 34 people in the region were hospitalized with COVID-19, including eight listed in intensive care, according to data released by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control. No new COVID-related deaths were reported in northern B.C. over the weekend, leaving the region’s death toll from the pandemic at 284.
Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 24,827 cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health region, the B.C. CDC reported, of which 1,514 people were hospitalized over the course of their illness.
As of Monday, 89.9 per cent of eligible British Columbians (ages five and older) had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 84 per cent had received two doses. In addition, 45.9 per cent of B.C. adults have received a third booster shot.
Nearly 10.75 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province, including 501,504 in the Northern Health region.
As of Jan. 27, 89 per cent of people aged 12 and older in the Prince George local health area had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 85 per cent had two doses. In addition, 43 per cent of children aged five to 11 in the Prince George local health area had received their first dose.
