Nelly's Pub has proven the generosity of their customers for the second year running.
Accepting the challenge issued to five local pubs and restaurants to raise funds for the local charity 100 Hampers for 100 Families, the staff of the Hart Highway public house turned over a cheque for more than$1,000 to help feed families in need.
Many students at Ron Brent Elementary receive a hot breakfast and lunch in a program funded by School District No. 57 for families in need. Some of those students and their families go without enough food during the two-week Christmas break. To help raise money for the hampers a competition was created between local pubs, with servers collecting contributions from the patrons of their establishments.
"Nelly's has always had a caring clientele that respect the servers," said owner Stewart Malgunas. "Motivated by that respect they go above and beyond when asked to contribute to the cause."
That contribution has been recognized with the presentation of the trophy Tuesday, Dec. 10, with Brian Leslie and Phil Ramage of the fundraising team thanking them and praising the staff's efforts in the challenge.
