Dr. Sandra Allison is Northern Health's new Chief Medical Health Officer.
She's been on the job for two weeks.
Allison, most recently was a medical health officer based in Brandon, Man., and practised medicine as a family physician in Brandon, Churchill and Winnipeg.
Allison is accompanied by her semi-retired husband Shane, son, Nicholas, 12 and German shepherd Kaiser.
"My family and I are very excited to move to Prince George and northern B.C.," said Allison. "I look forward to continue working on an upstream population health approach advocating for people to enjoy a healthy lifestyle and utilize the 2015 Canada Winter Games as an avenue for this work."
The Chief Medical Health Officer for Northern Health serves a large geographic area and requires a wide range of skills.
"I welcome Dr. Allison to this challenging new role and am confident that her extensive experience and previous role as medical health officer in Brandon, Manitoba means she is well prepared to serve the unique needs of British Columbians in the north," said Dr. Perry Kendall, the provincial health officer.
The Chief Medical Health Officer for Northern Health is the lead for the public health team that works to improve the health of people in the northern by preventing illness, promoting healthy choices, and helping to eliminate or avoid outbreaks.
