New ice groomer at CN Centre

Everyone who's been to a rink has seen a zamboni and now there's a new player in town. It's the latest trainboni, the most recent addition to the fleet that clears the CN Centre ice.

The latest ice groomer at CN Centre called a trainboni is in the likeness of CN Rail's No. 6060 that came into service in 1944.

Everyone who's been to a rink has seen a zamboni and now there's a new player in town.

It's the latest trainboni, the most recent addition to the fleet that clears the CN Centre ice.

This model harkens back to 1944 when the Canadian National Railway locomotives No. 6060 came into service.

Nicknamed Bullet Nosed Betties for their cone-shaped smokebox front covers, the trains hauled passengers and freight.

The CN Centre's new trainboni reflects the heritage of the railway and features a black body, with aluminum trim wheels, accented by green and gold trim. The trainboni has steam coming from its stack as well as its undercarriage, just like the real No. 6060 and has a working bell to let hockey fans know it's on its way.

"There is no other ice resurfacer in the world like our trainboni," said Glen Mikkelsen, CN Centre's manager. "It is a remarkable machine. And we are thrilled to show off our partnership with CN with this tribute to our nation's locomotive heritage."

The trainboni, which is used during Prince George Cougars games will be used extensively during the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
