There's a new face as the Lead Organizer of the Prince George Terry Fox Run.
Ryley Newman was introduced this morning (Aug. 9) as Scott McWalter's replacement after the 2019 run was possibly in jeopardy.
McWalter held the post for five years but announced this past April that he was moving on.
"To be honest, there wasn’t any particular reason for stepping down from the Lead Organizer position, other than the fact I didn’t have the same high level of passion as I did in 2014 when I first stepped into the role," he told PrinceGeorgeMatters. "It’s time for someone to come in and once again amp up the enthusiasm for the Terry Fox Run."
Newman said at his introduction this morning he currently has no major plans on changes for the run but hopes to bring in more businesses and vendors to participate.
The 2019 run will be held on Sunday, Sept. 15 starting and ending at the Exploration Place parking lot.
There was also a special guest in attendance at the announcement this morning at the Terry Fox statue downtown.
Jim Terrion has raised a whopping $755,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation, starting in 1990, going door-to-door in northern communities, despite being deaf.
He hopes to reach the $1 million plateau in between 2022 and 2024.
