There's a new bus in Prince George.
It's the new MiDi and at 30 feet long, seating 24, it's considered a medium-duty bus. It has two doors and can fit another 30 people standing into it, and will operate in town for a month during and after the Canada Winter Games.
The bus was brought to P.G. by BC Transit, the City of Prince George and New Flyer Industries Canada.
The arrival of the demonstration vehicle will help with the heavier passenger load during the Games.
"In order to ensure the efficient movement of people around the city as we host the nation and then begin to celebrate Prince George's 100th Anniversary, we are encouraging residents and visitors to take advantage of public transit, which is free for riders during the 2015 Games," said Mayor Lyn Hall of Prince George. "The New Flyer MiDi will serve to make Prince George's already robust and effective transit service even more flexible, accessible, and accommodating for citizens and visitors alike throughout this busy and exciting time."
The MiDi has a low floor entry, with a 1:6 sloped wheelchair ramp to provide accessibility to passengers with strollers or mobility aids. The bus has large windows to provide natural light, is lighter and more fuel efficient than a full-sized bus and has more maneuverability.
