New School District 57 trustees Milton Mahoney and Rachael Weber were sworn in during the board’s inaugural meeting on Tuesday.
Mahoney and Weber were elected in a byelection on Jan. 15. Mahoney only needed 293 votes to defeat four other candidates in Prince George in the byelection, which only drew 1,137 voters in the Prince George area.
Weber received 76 votes, to defeat fellow Mackenzie candidate David Szucsko, who garnered 38 votes.
“I am really thankful for this opportunity,” Weber said. “And I hope to lead our children in the best way.”
Mahoney and Weber will join the board of trustees until the next B.C. general school district and municipal election on Oct. 15.
Trustee Sharel Warrington was acclaimed as chairperson of the board. Members of the board elect their own chairperson and vice-chairperson on an annual basis.
