Prince George went three weeks without a new case of COVID-19, according to data released by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control on Wednesday.
Between June 20 and July 10, no new cases were reported in the Prince George local health area. The week prior, June 13 to June 19, seven new cases were reported in the Prince George area, which includes Mackenzie and the Robson Valley.
Small numbers of new cases continue to be reported in the Northern Health region, mostly concentrated in the Peace River North and Peace River South local health areas where vaccination rates are the lowest in the province. As of July 12, the vaccination rate for those aged 12 and older in the Peace River local health areas stood at 51 per cent, compared to 71 per cent in Prince George.
As of Thursday, 79.4 per cent of all British Columbians 12 and older had at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 48.6 per cent were fully vaccinated, according to the B.C. Ministry of Health.
A single new case of COVID-19 was reported in the Northern Health region on Thursday, one of 54 new cases reported in B.C. The location of the northern B.C. case was not provided.
Throughout B.C. a total of 650 cases of COVID-19 remained active, including 28 in the Northern Health region. A total of 63 people in the province were hospitalized with COVID-19, of which 12 were in intensive care.
One person, who was listed in critical care, with COVID-19 was hospitalized in the Northern Health region, as of Thursday.
One new COVID-related death in the Vancouver Coastal Health region was reported on Thursday, bringing the province’s death toll from the pandemic up to 1,761. Of those fatalities, 157 have been in the Northern Health region.
Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 148,282 cases of COVID-19 in the province, including 7,808 in the Northern Health region.
A total of 5.94 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in B.C., including 269,780 doses in the Northern Health region.
