Northern B.C. sees slight drop of COVID-19 cases in seven-day period

There's some encouraging news for northern B.C. and COVID-19. 

In the latest Geographic Distribution of COVID-19 by Health Service Delivery Area of Case Residence report from the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), Northern Health recorded 269 cases from Jan. 22 to 28, 2021. 

The Northern Interior (which includes Prince George) recorded 74 cases while Northwest B.C. had the highest total with 130. 

Northeast B.C. tallied 65. 

From Jan. 1, 2020 to Jan. 21, 2021, the Northern Interior has recorded 1,560 cases of the virus followed by the Northwest region at 1,010. 

The northeast region has had 817. 

As of this publication (Jan. 30, 2021, 3 p.m.), the region has a total of 3,391 cases found since March of last year when the virus hit the north. 

There are currently 509 active cases with 43 in hospital and of those are in ICU or critical care. 

After yesterday's update (Jan. 29) from Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, the death toll has risen in the north to 67. 

Northern Health has not yet clarified when the latest deaths occurred or if they are associated with an outbreak.
