Northern Health COVID-19 positivity rate remains in double digits, highest in B.C.

Northern B.C. continues to hold the highest COVID-19 positivity rate in the province. 

According to the latest BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) data, Northern Health's seven-day moving average comes in at 12.9 per cent as of Feb. 21, 2021. 

For comparison, Fraser Health is 8.2 per cent, Vancouver Coastal Health is reporting six per cent, Interior Health currently holds 4.5 per cent and Island Health sits at 3.2 per cent during the same time period. 

B.C.'s seven-day moving average for COVID-19 positivity rate has increased slightly to 6.8 per cent. 

As of today (Feb. 23), Northern Health has seen the most recorded cases in the 20-29 age range with 799. 

A full breakdown is as follows: 

  • 10 years of age or less: 229
  • 10-19: 476
  • 20-29: 799
  • 30-39: 707
  • 40-49: 694
  • 50-59: 620
  • 60-69: 425
  • 70-79: 236
  • 80-89: 136
  • 90 years or older: 29

Northern Health has recorded 4,351 COVID-19 infections since March 2020, which currently includes 299 active cases with 39 in hospital, 13 of which are in critical care or ICU. 

A total of 104 people have lost their lives to the virus. 

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix are scheduled to give an on-camera briefing this afternoon (Feb. 23) at 3 p.m.
