Northern Health says they are in contact with residents and their families regarding accommodations after the abrupt closure of a private Prince George care home.

Enat Complex Care suddenly dropped a bombshell on families and residents on Friday evening (June 28) that they were closing, leaving residents and families without any readily available options.

Northern Health spokesperson Eryn Collins says eight patients came into Northern Health's care over the weekend.

But before that, residents ended up in the University Hospital of Northern B.C. (UHNBC) emergency room in hallways with no clear picture going forward after the sudden and shocking closure.

On Saturday (June 29), Collins says they were transferred to Gateway.

She adds Northern Health Community Care Licensing was trying to work with the facility in Prince George to asses as well as work through some concerns that were related to care and safety of residents.

"Options for the continued operation were presented, but ultimately the decision was made – by the operator - to close the facility," Collins says in an email to PrinceGeorgeMatters. "The affected residents were transported to UHNBC for assessment of their needs and admitted overnight, and on Saturday they were transferred to an NH long-term care facility. We continue to explore options for their care, and are communicating directly with residents and their families about their interim location and care, as well as longer-term options.”

When contacted by PrinceGeorgeMatters, Eyob Abebe, owner of Enat Complex Care Home, would not elaborate on details, giving only a few words.

"Further discussion pending legal advice," the email read.

The website for the care home has also been removed today (July 2) after previously being available earlier in the morning.
