Northern Health is now accepting applications for its IMAGINE grant, which can award up to $10,000 to health- and wellness-based initiatives across northern BC.
The grant supports organizations working on projects that promote community health and well-being throughout the region.
One recent recipient, the Recycling & Environmental Action Planning Society, was awarded $7,975 for the installation of the Growing Knowledge Community Compost Garden at Duchess Park Secondary School.
Other funded projects include Perinatal Nutrition on a Budget, delivered by Carrier Sekani Family Services in Vanderhoof, and the Food and Clothing Security Peer Coordination Program, organized by the Coalition of Substance Users of the North in Quesnel.
Eligible applicants include not-for-profit organizations, First Nations bands and health centres, Indigenous organizations, municipalities and regional districts, schools and parent advisory councils, community groups and service agencies.
To qualify, projects must support one or more of the following areas:
- Mental wellness
- Community diversity
- Harm reduction
- Climate health action
- Food security
- Active living
- Community safety
Funding preference will be given to projects that demonstrate partnerships with other organizations, address an identified community need, reduce health inequities, build community capacity, and have long-term impact.
The IMAGINE grant does not fund:
- Prize money or gift cards
- Food for food banks, breakfast programs or large-scale catering
- Academic research
- Individuals or private businesses
- One-time events or short-term projects
- Initiatives outside the Northern Health region
While Northern Health employees, programs or facilities are not eligible to apply directly, they may be included as partners or supporters in applications.
Applications will be accepted until May 16, 2025. Funding will be released to successful applicants in June 2025.
