Northern Health receives $1.3 million

Fraser-Fort George Regional District directors approved a $1.3-million grant to Northern Health for minor capital projects.

A $1-million global grant will go towards a variety of medical equipment for hospitals and health facilities in Prince George, Mackenzie, McBride and Valemount.

A further $263,500 is for Health Link North, a clinical information system that integrates patient information from a variety of sources including radiology, pharmacy, lab, admitting and emergency.

And $56,667 will support minor upgrades to hospitals and health centres in Prince George, McBride and Valemount.

Directors approved the grant through the regional hospital board function.

Fort George Highway Rescue granted $50,000

The Fort George Highway Rescue Society will receive a $50,000 in grants from the regional district.

It's made up of a $40,000 grant in aid from electoral areas A, E, F and G. An additional $10,000 grant was provided from electoral area E for rescue equipment and other supplies.

The service provide emergency care at motor vehicle incidents.

Sewer and water system vote planned for Willow River

The community of Willow River will be voting on a proposed sewer and water system at an upcoming referendum.

A pre-design feasibility study was completed earlier this year, and residents were surveyed to gauge community support and gain information on the status of current sewer and water systems.

In the survey, 67 per cent of respondents indicated they would vote in favour.

A date for the referendum will be announced shortly.

Bear Lake community commissioner appointed

Kathy Evert was appointed commissioner to the Bear Lake community commission to complete the term Ed Gronning due to his passing.

An election will be held in November 2011.

The commission provides administration of local services in the community of Bear Lake including fire protection, street lighting, cemetery, ambulance station, recreation facilities and community water services.
