A spontaneous trip to McDonald’s proved costly for a Prince George woman.
In provincial court on Wednesday, Feb. 19, Judge Peter McDermick fined Arshdeep Kaur $1,000 for driving without a licence.
Kaur, 25, had been charged under the Motor Vehicle Act with driving while prohibited, but pleaded guilty to the lesser and included offence of operating a motor vehicle without a licence in her possession.
The maximum first-conviction penalty under the original charge would have been a $2,000 fine, six months imprisonment or both.
Court heard that a Prince George RCMP officer pulled over Kaur, who was travelling eastbound on 15th Avenue near Carney Street, because of a concern with her driving behaviour on Aug. 31, 2024. The officer asked Kaur for her licence, but she was unable to produce it.
Court heard that Kaur had driven with a friend after being pressured to pick up food from McDonald’s.
The only prior violation on Kaur’s driving record was an alcohol-related 24-hour prohibition.
McDermick gave Kaur one month to pay the fine.
