For the first two hours of the a public hearing on the new Official Community Plan on the evening of Wednesday, March 19 at Prince George City Hall, the gallery was standing room only.

The public hearing for the City of Prince George's Official Community Plan is set to reconvene at city hall at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9 after being paused during the hearing's first night on March 19.

The pause came after around 3 1/2 hours of comments from the public, most of which either came from those looking for greenspaces like Ginter's Green and Moore's Meadow to get more protections under the plan or from developers upset that their properties had been removed from the Urban Containment Boundary.

At the close of the first night of the hearing, city staff said that first-time speakers would be prioritized when the hearing reconvened with those who had previously spoken allowed to comment afterwards.

Those unable to attend in person can either watch a livestream of the meeting on princegeorge.ca or call 1-877-708-3350 and enter the access code 1269574# to comment via phone.

Third reading of the bylaw establishing the revised OCP is tentatively scheduled for after the closure of the public hearing. However, if any amendments to the OCP are passed by council, the city will be legally required to hold another public hearing at a later date.
