Did you know that Barkerville, the world-class historic town and site and a living testament to B.C.’s goldrush is located on the shared territory of seven nations? That includes: Lhtako, Nazko, Lhoosk'uz, Ulkatcho, ?Esdilagh, Xatśūll, Simpcw and Lheidli.
To celebrate, Barkerville is hosting the Sixth Annual Barkerville Indigenous Celebrations on Saturday, July 20, which shares stories of these nations role in the gold rush. The historic town will also be celebrating the launch of new Indigenous programming.
The day features Lhtako Dene cultural performances, St’at’imc Bear Dancers, Xatśūll dancing and drumming, songs and storytelling, traditional foods tasting, children’s crafts and more. Events will take place from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
All activities are included in the cost of admission to Barkerville, but visitors who identify as Indigenous, Metis or Inuit will have free admission for the day.
Barkerville is located just outside of Wells and is about a two-hour drive from Prince George.
