Compared to 2017 and 2018, this past summer remained quiet for wildfires across northern B.C.
Regardless, residents are still encouraged to be prepared for such an event, especially those in the agriculture industry surrounded by heavily wooded areas.
An all-day information session in Prince George later this month is set to do just that in providing local producers with knowledge of how they can be ready for potential wildfires.
The BC Agriculture and Food Climate Action Initiative is hosting wildfire risk reduction workshop about a series of tips, suggestions and advice for agriculture producers, wildfire response and emergency personnel and local government representatives.
Topics that will be covered on Thursday, Nov. 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. include:
- Learn local wildfire behaviour, threat, and history, and how to apply lessons learned to structural protection
- Develop customized wildfire preparedness plans for your operations that outline what needs to occur before, during, and after a fire
- Connect with local government representatives responsible for wildfire and emergency planning, as well as local wildfire and emergency response personnel
The workshop is free and includes lunch and refreshments.
As there is limited space for the event, which takes place at the Prince George Civic Centre, you must register in advance via BC Wildfire Prepardness.
