A Prince George man was sentenced Wednesday to two years, less a day, in jail in relation to the seizure of drugs and weapons from a home on Upper Mud River Road in March 2015 - and for a previous attempt to obstruct justice.
Justin Edward Pawluck, 34, plead guilty to possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized; possession of a prohibited weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized; and possession of a controlled substance. In addition, Pawluck plead guilty to attempting to obstruct justice while in prison in February 2016.
An agreed statement of facts submitted to the court by the Crown and Pawluck's lawyer said that on March 31, 2015 RCMP executed a search warrant on the home in the 15000-block of Upper Mud River Road after receiving information from three sources that Pawluck was dealing drugs from the rural home west of Prince George and had firearms there.
Police found a number of firearms, including a handgun in a trailer near the house, a significant quantity of ammunition and a large quantity of drugs - including 13.95 grams of methamphetamine and a large quantity of prescription drugs in Pawluck's name and some unlabeled.
Pawluck wasn't at the home at the time, but police found personal documents addressed to him in one of the rooms in the house. A pair of nunchucks, which are a prohibited weapon in Canada, was displayed on the wall of the room.
Pawluck's guilty pleas were related to the pistol and the nunchucks, He was prohibited from owning weapons at the time.
The obstruction of justice charge resulted after Pawluck was arrested on Jan. 21, 2016, according to a second agreed statement of facts submitted to the court.
The arrest happened while Pawluck was in a vehicle with a woman. A quantity of drugs was found in a man's coat in the back of the vehicle.
Police applied for a telephone order on Feb. 12, 2016 and recorded 80 phone calls made by Pawluck from jail.
In multiple recorded conversations, Pawluck told others to tell the woman to give a new statement to police taking ownership of the coat containing the drugs. Pawluck also spoke directly to the woman and offered her drugs to take ownership of the coat, and threatened her to "change her story or he'd fuck her up," the joint submission said.
Because Pawluck spent 13 months in jail prior, he will only serve an additional 136 days in jail.
Once released, he faces three years of probation and a lifetime firearms prohibition.
Pawluck's lawyer said the father of three is seeking addiction treatment, has an offer of full-time employment as a mechanic waiting for him and is looking to turn his life around and support his family.
Michael Douglas Platt, 36, who was identified as Pawluck's co-accused and the primary resident of the home on Upper Mud River Road, was sentenced in November on four firearms-related charges.
Charges against Dylon Sadillo McLemore and Leila Angel Lorraine Brousseau, who were also arrested at the Upper Mud River Road home, remain before the courts.
