Members of the Dutch Canadian Tulip Committee (DCTC) were busy Saturday, Oct. 19 planting 1,000 tulips in preparation for next spring's celebration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Holland from Nazi German occupation by allied forces.
Canadian soldiers played a key role in the operation that freed Holland and in 1945 the Dutch royal family gifted Canada 100,000 tulips as a thank you.
The tulips, planted in a dedicated bed to the west of the Cenotaph on George Street, will winter under the ground before pushing up to meet the spring air in late April or early May.
