Hundreds of people flocked to Canada Games Plaza and the Civic Centre to take in the Festival of Trees and the Civic Light Up event Thursday evening.
With a constant rotation of entertainers on stage in the Civic Centre and outdoor in the plaza, energy was high as everyone waited for the official beginning of the Christmas season.
The newly renovated Canada Games Plaza provided a stunning backdrop for the evening, having been transformed into a community market with booths along the revamped skating rink. The rink features a year-round skating surface.
The evening event was topped by the lighting of the decorative lights throughout the plaza, with people crowded together to watch a fireworks display in the snow.
