The Christmas season has officially arrived in Prince George.
On Sunday night (Nov. 24), the community gathered by the hundreds in Canada Games Plaza to take in entertainment, music, dancing, activities, holiday treats, crafts, a visit with Santa and the lighting of the Tree of Lights on top of the Coast Hotel.
The 60-ft. tree was lit up with over 100 strings of lights for the kick-off event, but will now be turned off and only lit up when donations come in.
Donations go to the United Way of Northern BC (UWNBC) and you can light up a bulb for $5 or make a larger donation and turn on as many as you wish.
Donations can be made at the UWNBC office on the fifth floor of the Prince George Native Friendship Centre, the front desk at the Coast Inn of the North hotel in downtown Prince George or online.
Civic Light Up attendees also popped into the Civic Centre for the Festival of Trees to warm up and view this year's trees and events.
After the fun and entertainment, the whole thing was capped off with a few words from Mayor Lyn Hall and a spectacular fireworks display.
