PHOTOS: Toy Run sees Prince George bikers ride together for a good cause

‘We would be lost without it’

Motorcycles, leather and toys filled the CN Centre parking lot Sunday morning as hundreds of bikers came out to participate in the 37th annual Prince George Toy Run.

The toys and donations collected from the Sept. 30 event support the Salvation Army Christmas Hampers, providing gifts for children and teens from families who can’t afford Christmas presents.

“We would be lost without it,” says the Salvation Army’s community ministries director Roy Law, of the annual event. “It’s so awesome when Prince George comes together for a purpose like this and has fun at the same time.”

Law added that every year the Salvation Army gathers at least 300 toys from the event, which is critical for filling the hampers and providing presents for families who might otherwise go without.

The Salvation Army’s Operation Hunger Relief team was on site serving the crowd coffee, tea, hot, chocolate, sandwiches and desserts.

Bikers gathered at the CN Centre parking lot before noon, mixing and mingling until the ride kicked off at 1 p.m with Santa Clause leading the way.

The Salvation Army hopes to fill roughly 400 Christmas hampers this season.
