The Wheelin' Warriors of the North put the pedal to the metal and now have one million reasons to show for it.
Founder Karin Piche announced today (May 5) the team has now surpassed $1 million in funds raised for the BC Cancer Foundation.
Piche started Wheelin' Warriors of the North back in 2013, which participates in the yearly British Columbia Ride to Conquer Cancer, raising funds for the BC Cancer Foundation.
Each rider that participates needs to raise $2,500 a year on top of cycling more than 200 km in just a single weekend.
The money riders raise stays in Prince George and support the BC Cancer Centre for the North.
“Together, we did it! I can not contain my excitement today as I proudly announce to our community that Wheelin’ Warriors of the North has surpassed the $1 million raised for cancer research and care," Piche says in a news release.
"I want you to know that without our amazing community of supporters and their generosity, reaching this incredible milestone would not have been possible."
The announcement of surpassing $1 million comes after the sad news of the 2020 BC Ride to Conquer Cancer has been postponed due to COVID-19.
“I want to express my sincere gratitude to Wheelin’ Warriors of the North. Together, you have improved and saved lives through your commitment to the Ride to Conquer Cancer," President and CEO, BC Cancer Foundation Sarah Roth adds.
"Congratulations to the entire team and all of your generous supporters for raising an extraordinary $1 million, allowing BC Cancer's experts to break down cancer and change the outcome for patients and families."
So far this year, the Wheelin' Warriors of the North team has raised close to $50,000, coming in at $45,492 dollars.
"There truly aren’t enough ways to communicate my gratitude," Pich continued.
"There is nothing better than seeing our community come TOGETHER! I would like to send out one million heartfelt thank you’s to everyone who helped the team reach this tremendous goal. Thank you for your donations and continued support for our cause.”
