Prince George RCMP are asking the public to avoid the 1600 block of 11th Avenue in the city's downtown where Mounties have converged on a home known to police.

Cst. Jennifer Cooper said police had responded to an abandoned 911 call just after noon and subsequently called in the North District RCMP emergency response team and the Prince George RCMP's dog services.

"There are many people that have come out of the residence but there are some that are still inside the residence," Cooper said while providing an update to local media shortly after 2 p.m. "We don't know what their situation is, so we're just trying to see if we can get them to come out willingly and of their own accord and to encourage a peaceful resolution to this situation."

Cooper said the public is not at risk but people are asked to avoid the area "as this is a dynamic event which could change rapidly and unpredictably."

Cooper said more details will be provided as they become available.

It's the same home from which RCMP seized an array of drugs as well as two guns and arrested 15 people in early December, Cooper confirmed.

Charges remain pending from that incident.
