Police arrested a 36-year-old Fort St. John man Oct. 1 in connection with a fatal hit and run incident Sept. 29.

Police are recommending charges of dangerous driving causing death, failure to remain at the scene of an accident and driving while disqualified. The suspect's name cannot be released until after his first appearance in court.

The incident at an apartment parking lot resulted in 87-year-old Nora Gallafer succombing to her injuries in hospital after being struck by a vehicle backing up at a high rate of speed. She was struck as she was getting into the passenger seat of a SUV driven by her husband Herb Sangrett.

Police say two males and a female in the offending vehicle got out of their car, saw Gallifer lying on the ground before reentering their vehicle and fleeing the scene.

Fort St. John police believe there are more witnesses to come forward and are asking anyone who has information to call 250-787-8100.
