Prince George RCMP swooped in to catch a suspect within minutes of a weekend shooting.
Police arrived at the 1900 block of Ross Crescent just before 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8 and heard from witnesses that the suspected gunman had just left the area on foot.
Officers found a suspect 10 minutes after the first call came in.
"The rapid response to this incident is a great example of our front-line police officers’ dedication to public safety," states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, media relations officer for the Prince George RCMP. "Though this shooting occurred on a weekend, it was close to a public park and a high school, in a residential neighbourhood at a time of day that often sees people outside in the area. Any additional risk to the public was very quickly managed by this team."
The person who was shot was transported to the hospital with severe but non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect, Dustin Charles Burgess, 38 was to remain in custody until his next court appearance.
He was charged with aggravated assault, discharging a firearm with intent, possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order and possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized.
Police say this was a targeted incident with no increased risk to the public.
The investigation is ongoing.
