Advance voting in the days leading up to today's municipal election dropped when compared to the 2014 election.

In 2014, there were a total of 2,663 ballots cast during three advance opportunities. This year, there were 2,285 votes during four advance chances.

While there is close to a 15 per cent decrease, City of Prince George senior communications officer Michael Kellett says the last election was a different situation.

"It should be noted though that voter turnout was particularly high in the 2014 election," he says.

The numbers for general voting day today (Oct. 20), could be unpredictable.

In 2008, 16,946 voters cast ballots out of an eligible 52,122 voters for a 32.5 per cent voter turnout.

In 2011, a total of 15,266 voters cast ballots out of 52,495 eligible voters (29.1 per cent voter turnout).

For 2014, numbers were higher: 19,719 voters cast ballots out of an eligible 53,229 eligible voters (37 per cent voter turnout).

According to CivicInfo B.C., Prince George has 54,852 eligible voters this year.
