Prince George Airport Authority donates fire trucks to Barkerville

The trucks were due to be retired but will get a new lease on life serving the town

The Prince George Airport Authority (PGAA) has donated two Waltek Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) trucks to Barkerville Historic Town and Park.

The donation was made Wednesday at the airport.

The two Waltek trucks were due to be retired following regulated upgrades to the airport's fleet, but are both fully operational and suitable for use at the historic town, the airport authority stated.

“Community support is at the core of everything we do at the Prince George Airport Authority (PGAA)” said PGAA president and CEO Gordon Duke. "This is a unique opportunity for us to give these trucks a second life, and we are proud to support Barkerville Heritage Trust and its historic site.”

Barkerville narrowly escaped wildfires this summer. With four-wheel-drive the trucks are capable of fighting fire all around the town.
