School District 57’s Transitional Alternative Program (TAPS) is moving to a new home.
The program, which originally operated at the College of New Caledonia (CNC) campus, will now be in the John McInnis Centre at 3400 Westwood Dr.
TAPS provides services for students at the high school level who, despite planned interventions, can no longer be accommodated within the mainstream school system.
The program also accepts students who have already dropped out of school and may not, for various reasons, re-enter the mainstream system.
“The success of College of New Caledonia programs has brought with it increased student enrolment and therefore the need to use all available campus space,” says CNC president Henry Reiser in a press release.
The John McInnis Centre is home to the Centre for Learning Alternatives, which provides a wide variety of educational services to students from kindergarten into adulthood.
In the release, the school district states they have greatly appreciated the generous flexibility provided by CNC regarding a possible moving date for TAPS by June 2019; upon reflection, the district says it has decided to make the move this November.
"Based on the needs of the current cohort of TAPS students and the anticipated changes in staffing expected early in the new year, the administration for the Centre for Learning Alternatives has decided to relocate the TAPS to the John McInnis Centre effective Nov. 7, 2018," said Centre for Learning Alternative principal, Curtis MacDonald, in the release.
