Special Olympics BC Prince George athletes, coaches and volunteers welcomed the community to the annual inclusion fair this weekend.
Hosted at Art Knapp Plantland on Kimball Road, the event was an opportunity for the community to learn what Special Olympics is all about.
“This is what we call an inclusion fair to get more athletes hopefully to sign up for Special Olympics,” said Adrian Rosen, who is a Special Olympics athlete in snowshoeing, floor hockey, club fit, track and field, soccer, and golf.
“I like it because it’s inclusive, we are all accepting of each other,” said Rosen, adding that Special Olympics is a great way to make friends and he encourages others to come try it out.
Special Olympics BC is dedicated to providing individuals with intellectual disabilities opportunities to enrich their lives and celebrate personal achievement through positive sport experiences.
They offer high-quality sport programs, and cater to all ages and a wide range of abilities.
Sports programs run throughout the year with daily training and local competition, and the opportunity to participate in high-performance competition.
One recent success for Special Olympics Prince George happened earlier this month when the soccer team travelled to Whitehorse, Yukon March 17-19 to take part in the 2023 Yukon Invitational Soccer Tournament.
Teams from Surrey, Kelowna, Whitehorse and Prince George participated. The Prince George team came in third place after a tough match that they won by a winning in a shootout.
Organizers say the athletes were very excited, as this was the first time for many of them to visit Whitehorse!
Special Olympics BC Prince George offers a variety of opportunities for approximately 80 athletes.
