Prince George city council has granted final reading and adoption of the new Code of Conduct Bylaw.
The bylaw sets out complaint and resolution procedures and includes several sanctions that may be imposed for a breach of the bylaw.
The Code of Conduct Bylaw also includes circumstances where an independent third-party solicitor or investigator may be appointed, to help ensure neutrality when processing complaints.
When the bylaw was first discussed at the Dec. 4 council meeting, it sparked a lengthy debate among council members.
Mayor Simon Yu and Coun. Trudy Klassen took issue with having the city manager or corporate officer involved in the complaint process.
The same concerns were discussed again at the council table, however, when it came to a vote the bylaw passed without opposition.
