A city employee has been praised for a job well done.

At the Dec. 10 city council meeting, Coun. Kyle Sampson made special mention of a city employee who braved freezing cold water to turn off an exploding fire hydrant.

Sampson’s comments came after a video of Ryan Gallo was posted to the Facebook group, Hell Yeah Prince George! In the clip, Gallo pretty much takes a shower while trying to turn the thing off.

“I’m really proud of the team of people that we get to work with at the city,” said Sampson. “Today, I saw a post on social media where I think someone had hit a fire hydrant and it was blowing 20 feet in the air. There is a video of a gentleman who works for the city — under Dave Dyer’s team — Ryan Gallo, who was in the freezing cold just soaking himself to get that thing shut off.”

The video was captured by Paul Lacasse and posted to the group on Dec. 10. It has since accumulated more than 60 comments, with many praising Gallo for his hard work.
