The Prince George Humane Society is one of the recipients of the latest round of Prince George Community Foundation grants.

The Prince George Community Foundation has announced the recipients of the Spruce Credit Union Legacy Fund Grant.

  • Hart Highlands Winter Club and Caledonia Adaptive Snow Sports were given $20,000 to promote inclusivity and enjoyment for all community members by constructing an accessible patio and ramp
  • The Rotary Club of Prince George has received $20,000 towards the Rotary Community Garden Pergola Project, which is cultivating a space for growth, learning, and connection
  • Child Development Centre of Prince George and District receives $10,000 for the Mindful Beginnings: Nurturing Mental Health in Early Years program
  • PG Humane Society has received $10,000 to provide affordable access to veterinary care in Prince George

The 2024 grant recipients were selected by two committees from sponsor Beem Credit Union and the foundation.

"When we launched this fund, we invited bold ideas with the potential for lasting positive change," said Brian Harris, Beem's CEO of interior savings. "Prince George exceeded our expectations. The compassion within this community and the quality of the proposals were truly inspiring. These projects will not only create opportunities and strengthen community bonds but also save lives."

The Child Development Centre is looking forward to putting the funds to good use in the community.

“What the Child Development Centre has seen in the last few years, especially considering COVID is the lack of opportunities for young children to socialize,” said director of operations Karyn Hatfield. “We have seen a change in some of the emotional support needs and behavioural support needs that young children need. Being able to offer a program for children to learn how to work within a preschool setting would be beneficial to the community. Giving them the right step forward when it comes to eventually entering kindergarten and the school system.”

The Community Foundation will open a new grant cycle in the fall. To learn more visit the Community Foundation website.
