Prince George local radio Stations CFIS-FM-93.1 and Campus FM University Radio CFURadio 88.7 have teamed up to provide a first time Indigenous Youth Radio Broadcast Training Program.

They are also supported by the Prince George Nechako Employment & Training Association (PGNAETA).

This 25-week hands on training will provide the skills and training required for these youth to be fully trained to work within a radio station and in broadcasting.

They have taken on six students who will learn the skills and overall daily role of radio broadcasting to provide the skills required for immediate radio broadcasting employment transition.

A guiding team comprised of Reg Feyer, executive director of CFIS-FM, Genevieve Tucker, station manager of CFURadio, and PGNAETA Pre-Employment staff have collaboratively developed the radio training program.

“I’m really excited about the prospect of giving these individuals the basic training needed to enter into our industry and think the addition of young Indigenous voices to this traditional media landscape will be a great benefit to our society,” said Feyer.

“The CFUR Team is honoured to be part of this amazing program! We look forward to sharing our skills to the youth involved in this first ever program. It is important to us that we share our knowledge and provide opportunities to our community and surrounding communities to enter into the broadcasting space,” added Tucker.

The program will wrap up in mid April with a celebration of completion certificates and a huge community presence to join in on their success.
